Town Deal Update:
What’s happening now & what’s coming next

Western Works Completion & Re-Opening Information

Updated 23 September

The first part of Brighouse Town Deal’s town centre transformation is now complete with the new look for the western area revealed and updated plans for the rest of the works confirmed.

The parts of Commercial Street, Market Street and Briggate where works have been taking place over the past eight months have been re-opened to traffic, with loading and disabled bays plus on street parking reinstated.

These changes will be delivered through a temporary traffic regulation order – a legal measure which allows the changes to come into force ahead of the full, formal Traffic Regulation Order being implemented at the conclusion of the project next year.

Here are the details:

Change Locations
These TTRO changes will apply across the town centre in all the locations listed (including roads that are still open but haven’t undergone improvement yet)

The Next Steps:
Southern & Eastern Work Areas

To help ensure that the construction can continue on site as the revised plans for the rest of Commercial Street and Bradford Road are completed, the next area of work will now be in the south of the town centre.

The Southern Works plan shows the areas that will be closed to vehicles between late September 2026 and spring 2027 to allow the construction work to be undertaken.

  • As with the first phase of the work, all shops, properties and venues will continue to be open for access for customers, residents and staff. Esh will also work directly with the businesses to facilitate deliveries and collections.
  • Bethel Street Car Park will be closed for the majority of this time as work will need to be undertaken along Bethel Street which will restrict access. The contractors will, however, retain access to Bethel Street Car Park as long as they can.
  • As there will be no vehicle access to Park Street, the contractor is hoping to work on Park Street and Park Row as part of this next area of work. Once confirmed, the contractor will contact the individual shops and businesses in the area.
  • To help vehicle access into the town whilst the next stage of work is undertaken in the south of the town, remedial surfacing work will be made to the section of Commercial Street near the junction with Market Street. This will allow Commercial Street to be opened up as a through route for vehicles.

Following the completion of this next stage of work to the south of the town, construction will move to the last area which includes the Commercial Street, Bradford Road and King Street areas – this is the Eastern Works area, outlined in the map.

Park Street and Park Row will need to remain closed for general vehicle access during this stage as there will be no through route whilst work is being undertaken on Commercial Street.
