New homes for Brighouse Parklets
Expressions of interest closed on Friday 9 February 2024
The Brighouse Town Deal Board and Calderdale Council are inviting community groups, charities and organisations to express an interest in giving two of the town centre’s temporary parklets a new home when they are removed as part of the £19.1m Town Deal investment work.
Four pedestrian areas with benches, plants and trees, two on Commercial Street and two in Bethel Street car park, were installed in 2021 as part of accelerator funding to bring benefits to Brighouse ahead of the full UK Government-funded Town Deal projects being delivered.
Now, as the proposals for the market building get closer to becoming reality, the two parklets by the canalside in Bethel Street car park need to be found new homes elsewhere in the community.
It’s hoped they can bring continued benefits to residents and visitors to this part of Calderdale with applications open to community groups and charities based in the Brighouse, Rastrick or Hipperholme & Lightcliffe wards – including towns and villages like Clifton, Bailiff Bridge, Brookfoot and Hove Edge.
The closing date for expressions is Friday 9 February.
About the Parklets
The two parklets available at this time are Canalside Parklet 1 and Canalside Parklet 2. These are currently located within the Bethel Street Car Park, close to the existing Open Market. They will need to be removed so that construction work can begin on the new market building.

Who is eligible?
Applications can come from community groups, organisations and charities based in the Brighouse, Rastrick or Hipperholme & Lightcliffe wards of Calderdale Council and it is within these ward boundaries that the parklets must be based.
You can enter your postcode and see which ward you are in here >>
What’s involved?
We will organise for the parklet to be deconstructed and delivered, however there will be a requirement for successful organisations to organise for the parklet to be constructed safely at their location.
Each organisation will take on full liability for the construction and the ongoing operation of the parklets.
Express your interest
If you are interested in providing a new home to a parklet, please complete the short application form no later than Friday 9 February.
The applications will be assessed by the Brighouse Town Board and will award the parklets to groups who can best demonstrate that they can make the parklets available for the community.
